Slow steaming/Turbo cut-out

When a ship’s engine is running at reduced power, known as “slow steaming”, one or more turbochargers can be shut down to allow the remaining turbocharger(s) to operate at a higher and more efficient load (turbo cut-out).

Somas’ exhaust and butterfly valves are used to shut off the exhaust gas flow and the air flow in and out of the turbocharger. These valves are designed to optimise the flow, with the aim of delivering as low a pressure drop as possible in the open position.

Somas has the knowledge and experience required to manufacture valves that supply the conditions to get the maximum economic and environmental benefits.
