How did you come to work at Somas?
I applied for a job to try something new and started working with projects and sales support. I currently work as an Export Sales Manager within the marine sector, it feels like the right spot for me.
How long have you worked here, what makes you stay?
I started in August 2023. My main area is Korea, selling exhaust valves used in large ship engines, I also do aftermarket work. What keeps me around are the people I work with, the comradery and the variety in my job.
What’s a good day at work like for you?
A good day for me is when the tempo is high, but everything runs smoothly. I usually start my days with a full inbox from Korea and then work on quotes, customer questions and problem solving with my team. When traveling, the focus is more about meeting the customer and building relationships, which I appreciate.
Which part of your job are you the proudest of?
When the customer is happy. That’s a receipt for a job well done. I’m also proud to work at Somas, a company with a great reputation that really cares about its employees.
What’s the trickiest part of your job?
When something goes wrong and impacts the customer. You always want to deliver quality, and when things don’t work out as planned it’s rough, regardless of the reason.
What’s something you think a lot of people misunderstand about your job?
What kind of valves we work with and how important they are. Our exhaust valves are installed in large ship engines and ensure they run correctly. Not something most people think about on a daily basis.
What makes you enjoy working with your team?
We have great dynamic. We work together professionally, but at the same time we have a lot of fun. That has a huge positive impact on the workday.
What’s the most important aspect in building long-term customer relationships?
Communication and honesty. Being quick to respond and transparent when things don’t go as planned, that’s what builds trust over time.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like traveling, I’m also very involved with my local golf course. Beyond that I like spending time with my friends over dinner and taking my dog for walks.
